I am joining the same tour but starting Dec 5. Can't wait too and looking forward to soak in the wonderful atmosphere.
Came across a tour tale of the same tour that is very detailed and well written (by Niece57 under Tour Tale who did the tour in 2008 so should be pretty relevant still). Found out there are about 6 optional tours offered.

You are both going to be in for a great tour.
There are many other things to see as well as the Markets. I hope you will be lucky enough to have snow as we did. I would suggest doing all the optionals but if you have to chose then the ones really worth doing are Dachau Camp, Sound of Music. Horse and Carriage ride out of Innsbruck, Linderhof Castle and The Lucerne Lake Cruise. The markets are lovely but a lot of things are made of things we can't bring back into Oz so I stuck to the ceramic and painted wood orniments. Do try the Gingerbread and Gluwein or Kinderpuncsh if you don't drink wine.If you like Marshmallow like me there is this rather fattening roll to try.With the Hotels you will be happy but be prepared to be disappointed in Lucerne. Feel free to ask any questions and I will try my best to answer them.

need some advice on currency: is it necessary to carry Swiss Franc when in Swizterland or Euro$ will do? Thanks in advance

When we were there in 2005 they accepted only Swiss francs. I doubt that it has changed.

If my memory serves me correctly I think they accept Euro but you get your change in Swiss Francs. I have always got some money from the ATM or taken a little bit from Australia before I go.
On the Winter Wonderland you do have 2 days in Lucerne and also they take Swiss Francs in Leitchenstein.

Euro is used in Germany and in Austria. In Lichtenstein and Switzerland the currency is the Swiss Franc. But, I had no problem using the Euro in Switzerland. Winter Wonderland Tour is very nice.
