Hi everyone
Peter and I have an additional 3 days in Istanbul prior to the commencement of the Wonders of Turkey tour on October 2. We are staying in the old quarter and then transfering to the Conrad for the start of the tour, has any one made their own way to the Conrad i.e. ferry, bus or taxi? Any information would be greatly received. Thanks in advance. |

I haven't stayed at the Conrad, but taxis are fairly cheap and probably the most convenient way to go. I don't think the tram goes very close to the hotel, but you could always catch it over the Golden Horn and get a taxi from the last stop, it might save you some money. The tram is a great way to get around Istanbul, though walking is all you need for most sights. You have made a wise choice having extra days in Istanbul, we had 5 days and that wasn't enough, we really enjoyed the city and would love to go back sometime. You'll love the rest of Turkey too.

Conrad Hotel is beautiful. Be sure to visit the top floor for view and only drink free water next to bed. Take a taxie as it is easier than going all down hill. Get an information card from lobby with hotel and address as most cab drivers do not speak English. You will love Turkey, the people, food, and the country.

Some of my tour mates stayed in the Sultanahmet area and took a taxi to the Conrad. Make sure you agree on a price before you get into the taxi. Two years ago it should not have been much more than 10 YTL, someone on our tour had paid 70 YTL which was much too much according to our TD. Maybe 20-30 YTL is the right amount with luggage, just a suggestion since I never took a taxi. It might also depend on traffic since it can be very heavy at times. The Conrad is fairly far.

Hi Ann,
As others have already advised, a taxi is the way to go. It's walkable without luggage (approximately 5km) but with luggage, you will need a cab. You may have already found it, but my post: Weblinks: Treasures of Turkey tour contains a great deal of information relevant to both your pre-tour time in Istanbul and your actual Wonders of Turkey tour which in reality, is a slightly abridged version of the Treasures of Turkey tour, but travels anti-clockwise rather than clockwise. phil |
