We are about to do two tours Egypt and then Turkey and are confused about what currency to take with us or change to before we arrive. We are in NZ and can take a Travelex or cash card. One person says put US$ on it and another says put NZ$ on it and change it as you need. Can anyone help us??

I haven't used those cards before, but I would imagine US$ would be the way to go. Everything I have read seems to imply most places will exchange US$ more easily than other currencies. We found that in western Turkey some of the bigger tourist centres even accepted Euros as well as Turkish Lira, they even advertised their prices in Euros, we then had to convert the amount to Turkish Lira, a bit silly when in Turkey. You'll love Turkey, it's a wonderful counrty, so much to see. We're off to Egypt later this year and really looking forward to that. Happy travels

I doubt if you can buy Egyptian pounds in New Zealand, so I would take a small amount of US$s or Euros with me so as to have some easily changeable money available on arrival. From then on I would use an ATM card.

Generally it doesn't make sense to change from your home currency to a second currency and then to the currency you want as you end up paying for two conversions.

When you travel, remember that a foreign country is not designed to make you comfortable. It is designed to make its own people comfortable.

We went to Egypt a couple of years ago.needed US$ or Euros to pay for Visa when entering the country. But we had Egyptian money that we exchanged prior to going.Whilst in the tourist places took US$ I found that there conversion rates were a little off.So I paid Egyptian for everything.
