Hi. I am going to be headed to Egypt in early November. I looked at past posts to see if tours included a visit to the Bazaar but could not find anything recent. The last mention was in 2008. I am wondering if the tour does not stop there what it is like if 3 women travel alone to the bazaar.
Also I would love to hear from any women who did travel without a male what your impressions and experiences were.
Thanks.

I did Splendours of Egypt last year and a single woman was on the tour. She had arrived a few days before the start of the tour and had walked around Cairo by herself and gone through the museum. She told us at no time did she feel threatened or frightened. Naturally she didn't take any risks and was very wary of shopkeepers wanting her to go into their shops.

As regards the bazaar it was not included in our tour but several people took a taxi at the end of the tour to the bazaar and looked around themselves. It is such a huge tourist attraction you shouldn't have any worries. I am very sorry we didn't go.

Enjoy Egypt it is the most amazing, fascinating and frenetic country.

Happy travelling.

The Bazaar is visited on the 1st full day of Jewels of the Nile. We had 45 minutes there but were advised to keep to the main street and not deviate from it. Apparently it is very easy to get lost. We were also advised that genuine wares were better bought later on the tour. This was in January this year.

I did the Grand Tour of Egypt 2 years ago and it wasn't included... however we did go on a free afternoon by ourselves with 2 other ladies on the tour, so four women in total.

We just took a taxi from the Marriott who dropped us off and picked us up from the Bazaar. At no time did i feel unsafe and it is definitely worth a visit.

The many items for sale and lots of side alleyways, but its not hard to work your way round really... and there are lots of interesting things to buy!! Just watch out for the papyrus... probably not genuine in the bazaar...
