hi brookyn, can you remember how much the donkey ride was in Santorini, like was it incredibly expensive or a reasonable price. What do donkeys eat? I'd like to give it a treat if it takes me safely down those steps.

It was part of Santorini optional, which I highly recommend. Oia, I think. And I'm not sure what donkeys eat? carrots? I'm not sure they will let you feed them.

Hi Aussie Annie.

We were advised not to take a donkey ride down the steps as the donkeys know they receive a treat at the bottom and are known to quicken their pace as they near the end of the steps.

Hi, what good advice you are getting! You will absolutely LOVE Egypt. In comparison to other locations in Europe for example the walking is much less as they "coach" you to most of the temples and other sites. There's not a lot of stairs either.

I was going to recommend the compression stockings to you but several others have mentioned it. I not only wear them on the flight, a must, but throughout my trip. I don't typically use salt so when I travel and am eating "out of the box" so to speak my ankles swell up and are painful. Last year, before my Egyptian trip I was just thrilled to find toeless compression stockings. Just put them on with sandles and longer pants and nobody but you knows. I found mine at a medi cal supply store but some catalogs have them as well. One brand name is Jobst, they are a bit pricey and other brands are around as well.

As far as the camel, you MUST do it, it is a complete "Hoot" and you'll laugh like crazy. we did ours out at the Pyramids.

Don't worry about your size, just go and have a fabulous time. And oh yes, you will finda the Galabea dresses in all sizes and colors on the Nile cruiser or along the way at the vendors that are set up at the temples. Remember to bargain very hard, don't pay more than $10.00 to $15.00 for a dress.

Go online and print out the conversion chart, Egyptian pounds to dollars, (or whatever your currency is) so you know know how much it is when they quote you in Pounds. Just whip it out and see if it's in your price range then bargain down even more. the price will drop rapidly as you walk away, it's so fun to haggle, they love it too! Have a wonderful trip!

Happy travels!

Lauretta, thanks for the wonderful feedback and suggestions where to start looking for plus-size compression stockings. I feel much more confident now that so many people have shared their experiences. I seriously thought that I would have lost opportunities but now "no way". I'm going for it.

Egyptian here I come.

Hi Bouflin, glad I could help. I want to keep traveling but each trip it just becomes more of a "challenge". It's a lot of my own fault, (but that can become a whole nother thread, huh?) Good Luck on finding the stockings, they are a little hard to get on at first but I roll them up and get them over your toes then "work" them up your legs, you'll get the hang of them. Can't wait for your trip report later on, take care, Lauretta, and yes, isn't Omar just "yummie". Now I want to go watch Dr. Zhivago again!
