I suppose this question is for John who colates the tales into the "list". I will be going on my next tour in 40 long days. Hard to believe the time is almost here. I am already thinking about posting a tale. Is it easier or better to continue each day on to the same post or should each entry have a separate post which John then has to combine together in the list?
Last Sept. i posted 5 separate entries to cover the whole trip. This allows people to follow easily, I think. It took me several days to finish the tale but it was very detailed in this way.
If it is written over several days and posted on to the one original, will people find that easier to follow or will entries tend to be missed?
Thanks, Diane

Hockeymom, posting your trip report all together in one place is far preferable and easier to read tyhan if it is scattered in various components. It also makes it a lot easier for Phil to add them to his Tour Tales list.

Below is also an excerpt from the instructions at the bottom of the the tour tales list in WHERE ARE ALL THE TALES?

  • posting TOUR TALES as multiple posts to a single topic (rather than multiple isolated topics) makes it far easier to index the TOUR TALE and far easier for future readers who may want to print out the TOUR TALE.

When posting a Tour Tale the method that I use and that works best for me is as follows:

    1. Type out the complete report in Microsoft Word or similar before posting it and with each day starting a new page.

    2. Count the number of days in your report and then create a new thread in the Tour Tales section for your report with a series of consecutive posts equal to the number of days in your report. Each consecutive post can be numbered simply 1, 2, 3 and so on.

    3. Copy day 1 from your typed trip document, click edit on No 1 of your series of posts in your Tour Report thread and then paste to that and save.

    4. Repeat the last operation for each day of your Tour Report progressively posting through all of the numbered series of your posts.

Once your whole report is typed the above cut and paste method can be placed on the BB very quickly, keeps all of your Tour Tale together in one place and has each day listed separately with no interrupting posts in between thereby making it much easier to read.

As mentioned earlier it also makes it simpler for Phil to Collate into his WHERE ARE ALL THE TOUR TALES? list and a single click will bring it up for anyone to read.

    Hi Hockeymom,
    quote:
I suppose this question is for John who colates the tales into the "list".

just to make things clear: John (the Moderator of this Bulletin Board) is an employee of Travelcorp and his job (amongst other things) is to moderate/maintain the BB.

The Where Are All the Tales? topic was posted originally and continues to be maintained by me. I am just another past (and possible future) Insight traveller and I have no relation with the company at all. Apart from this topic, I also maintain several other topics and collectively, this all takes quite a bit of my time and requires me to monitor the BB fairly closely.

Therefore, for me to include a link to a new tour journal requires that I notice that it has been posted. If it is posted in several separate parts, perhaps posted over several days or even weeks, it can become somewhat of a nuisance for me because I need to ensure I have found all parts and included their links. This wouldn't be so bad if authors included links in each section of their journal showing where the next part is but I have never seen anyone do that.

I concur with the advice provided by Dragons (above) on publishing journals and it is very similar to my own advice provided some time ago [see grand tour of scandanavia]. I have on several occasions considered including this type of advice and much more within the Where Are All the Tales? topic but held back because I considered that it might be a little daunting for some BB contributers.

To incorporate photos in journals, refer to this procedure.

    phil

Thanks so much for the info. It can indeed be daunting to do things differently but that is no reason I can not learn. I will endeavor to write my tale as suggested and ,Phil, you do a great Job. Diane

I have just featured this post as I think it might help others with future tales.
