Can you give me a suggestion about carrying cash for the Russia tour? Should we carry US dollars or Euros for Optional Tours?

Are ATM's available for withdrawing cash?

Do restaurants and stores accept credit cards? I'm concerned that traveling in Russia is not like my other travels, where ATMs and credit cards were the best option. Please advise specific to Easy Pace Russia, which visits only Moscow and St. Petersburg. THANKS!

We are doing Warsaw,Russia and Baltic States. We are taking Euros and US but I am from Australia. So for you US$ would be fine. The hotels will have ATM's and the larger stores will take credit cards. You can use your c/card for your optionals.

When I went to Russia last year, I found that clean, $US dollars were the best but for the optionals we could use Euros or $US. Its good to have small notes for incidentals and for buying from stalls.
Enjoy your trip Smiler

When we went to Russia, I was forunate enough to obtain the book recommended new bills; my sister on the other hand, ironed bills that looked fairly new ... both worked.

Hi Fanny

We were in Russia a few weeks ago and found that Euros were more popular than US$.

Now that I'm back, I can answer my own question! ATMs were still best source of cash, though machines at the bigger hotel ran out of cash from time to time. Travelers checks were a pain to cash, but we had them for back-up. We could have made the entire trip without any euros, since we went through Switzerland and Britain, where we needed SF and pounds!

While in St Petersburg last year I found $US to be the most useful, particularly for buying from street stalls, they don't like British pounds!

It would be a good idea to advise your bank and credit card company when you will be in Russia. Less than a year ago a friend of mine was in Petersburg and those that had NOT done this were unable to use the ATM. Although a call home was all it took to release funds.
