Dear BBers,
Just to keep you updated on this itineray, we currently have our contracting team working on the hotels and also places we will be visiting. We need to establish that places we visit will be open on the right days – on Day 2 of the itinerary for example we can’t visit Peles Castle on a Monday or Tuesday so need to work around things like that. We also have to secure the accommodation needed for places such as the 1 night stay on Korcula Island. From previous experience we have had some difficulty securing space here so will need to work our dates around this location. As soon as dates are secured we will update you accordingly. Train from Budapest to Bucharest is an all day affair- 13-15 hours. I think we'd do it in one day with no side adventures ie be content with the view from the train and not break the trip. Working out cost is something else! Haven't tried yet- most rail passes depend on number of days of travel in a month...not sure about a straight one day ticket. As well as the main ticket a seat reservation also has to be made. 1st class is advised but there is a Seniors discount! I am assuming that from wherever we fly into we'll spend a few days in Budapest first. |

I am afraid that's too long for me to travel on a train.I could stand 8 hours but no more. I haven't checked it out yet have been busy concentrating on our cruise that starts this Monday. You do realize the tour is starting from Bucharest not Budapest? If you wanted to do the rail journey it might pay to fly into Budapest and spend a few days then catch the train, you could even purchase your ticket there. But I am sure you can get a one way ticket online. Tupps |

Yes realise we have to get to Bucharest but thought we would spend extra days before the tour and as a way of seeing more countryside...and catch the hydrofoil perhaps back to Vienna at the end with other tour members. However it all depends which airline we fly with and to which destination. We crossed Canada for 3 nights and 4 days in 2006 so can handle the train trip. If we fly into Vienna we also might catch the train to Budapest to start with something we also did at the end of another tour in 2004. Have a good hotel to stay at out in the suburbs which we were very happy with back then. We became quite expert at getting round on the suburban trains, trust we remember how to do it! |

John, since we have no date, we cannot plan 2nd or 3rd connecting tours. A couple of questions: Once we have dates, can we still take advantage of the lower of the preview rates or final brochure rates for our supplemental tours? And, can we take advantage of the 12 month prepay discount even though we will be beyond that time? Thank you for your time.

I'm beginning to think that this tour itinerary is a problem for Insight, only because the itinerary and pricing for the first BB tour that occurred in 2008, was posted by John moderator back in August 2007, 12 months before the tour happened. It is now October 2009 and still no date or pricing for this proposed 2010 tour.
As johninwa has alluded to, it makes it hard for people who might have wanted to pick up the 12 month discount?? Egypt (hopefully) is my next destination, so this doesn't affect me but I certainly feel for the people who are waiting for the final itinerary & dates. |

We are aware that this year we are slightly behind with our dates and prices for this tour and apologise for the delay.
I can confirm that the departure date will be the 16th September 2010. We apprecaite that this date is now within the 12 month early booking period and will therefore honour the full 12 month early booking discount for bookings made before 31 October 2009. After this date the normal early booking discounts will apply as per our brochure. I would expect to have the pricing of this tour available by next week.
