Hi Jim,

Assuming everything dovetails ok ......

I was thinking that after 'our tour' concludes in Budapest you could perhaps stay on at the same hotel and join up with Insights 9 day 'Bohemian' Tour, albeit at the end of their day 2.

Now this idea only works if you like lots of Vienna, Beef Goulash and Gypsy violinists.

The 'fantasy' solution for us would be to discover that Insight's 2010 brochure includes a comprehensive tour of 'old' Czechoslovakia with 3 nights in Prague - and that it connects and coincides with 'our tour'.

Either way we hope to see you in 2010 Smiler

Regards Roger

. I agree Roger.

We have been to Vienna many years ago and possibly plan to fly into and out of vienna this time so the "Bohemian" maybe not be the go. Anyway thanks for the suggestions. Sometimes the pleasure in a trip is in the planning!!!

See you next year. Jim Smiler

Hi Jim

If you are interested in Prague then Explore Holidays is an excellent company for booking short city stay packages between Insight tours.

We used them last year for 4 nights in Prague between our 2008 Insight BB Tour and Insight’s Treasures of Turkey tour.

We stayed at the Bila Labut Hotel which was very well situated for a short walk to the Old Town (or catch the tram) and the package included:

  • 4 nights accommodation

  • Full Breakfast daily

  • Grand City Tour of Prague

  • Coffee and cake at the Municipal House coffee shop

  • Lunch or dinner in a typical Czech pub (includes 1 drink & coffee)

  • Tickets for the Black Theatre

  • 3-day Prague Card for unlimited use of public transport, plus

  • reductions for entrance to museums and Prague sights

You can also download their Austria and Germany Book in pdf format (which also includes Switzerland, Netherlands and Eastern Europe.

Prague is one of my favourite cities.

I agree with Dragon that Explore Holidays gives excellent value with their deals. We have used their short stay packages in 5 cities in Europe in 2006 & 2008.

We would certainly use their packages again.

John - Moderator,
Will you pls gives us additional information as it becomes available, particularly dates. I am starting to make plans for 2010 and will probably do multiple tours. It would certainly be helpful to know the dates of this tour to coordinate with other plans. Thank you in advance for all your work and that of the group travel folks.

Happy Trails!!

Assuming we will fly into Vienna and have to make our way from there to Bucharest we were thinking of spending a few days prior to the tour in Budapest and then travelling by train to Bucharest. If we do this we'd travel in the daytime so we could see more of the countryside.
Would anyone else consider doing this? Or alternatively feel that perhaps the tour should start and end in Budapest with an extra day to travel to Bucharest from Budapest?
Perhaps the Bucharest start suits most .... am just trying to work out the logistics.

Hi Bellbird.

At this stage we plan to fly in and out of Vienna. As mentioned earlier will go to Prague by either plane or train (possibly train). Spent some time in Prague and include a trip to Cesky Krumlov. Will then fly to Bucharest, although a train trip is not out of the question.

My two daughters gave me a Lonely Planet book on Eastern Europe for Fathers Day and I have been enjoying reading about all the fascinating places we will visit in 2010. Jim Smiler

Bellbird...I am sure there will be no more changes to the itinerary as right at this moment Insight will be setting everything up now, we are waiting to find out what they are planning, the dates and the price.
Have you checked out the timetable for the rail yet, like how many hours it takes, how many stops etc and how often the train goes to Bucharest.
We haven't decided which airline we shall use there are plenty to chose from.

About to leave for a week away so rushed...

There are trains every day from a cursory glance- we don't mind how long it takes as it's a chance to look at the scenery.
Then again we may decide not to be away from home and the property for too much extra time so could decide to fly from wherever to Bucharest.
