I just bought a Lumix.. a 48 I think??.. based on reviews. It take nice pics. The only thing I am disappointed in, is that it won't take my 16gb SDHC card, even though it is supposed to. Googling, I've found this to be a common complaint. At least it works in my other camera, so my money wasn't totally wasted.

Lumix brand and the Leica lens ..tops.
Cant wait to see the pics from those with new versions.
Rave reviews and particularly with regard to travel photos.
I find the zoom lens fabulous.. 18 optical ..I'm envious! Smiler

Laj,

Hi, I happen to have the wide angled Lumix LX3 plus a LCD TV and recordable DVD from the same company - all of these items are designed to display pics using SD or SDHC chips.

My early experiences were that nothing was too compatable with anything else but in my case it was due to the differences in the standards of my various equipment and the SD/SDHC file protocols.

So in a nutshell .... a SDHC 16gb card uses a file format of FAT32 and according to Panasonic the chip may not work properly unless you format the card on the same camera as you wish to use it on.

Hope this helps and sorry if I am telling you something that you already know.

Regards Roger

Thanks Hornet, looking forward to my Lumix LX3, even though the zoom is only x3, the quality of the lenses and fantastic clarity is more important to me than having more zoom in a camera (along with possible camera shake problems even with image stabilisation).

Hi Annie,

Actually you will soon discover that the zoom will nudge up a tad to an optical max of about 4.5, this will depend on the resolution that you select. It is indeed very short compared to the mega-zoom style cameras on the market but for travel photography the LX3's configuration is, in my opinion, absolutely ideal. The digital zoom will get you into tele-photo country (approx 240mm) but I prefer to use the top end of the optical range and then crop them if required on the PC. Even at 5mb resolution the results were pretty good but it's best to use a mini tripod when using the digital zoom at full range.

If like me you enjoy taking undistorted 'wide angle' travel pics then you will simply 'WOW' over the results from the 24mm Leica lens and don't worry too much about camera shake, during a recent cruise I took 956 pics and not one of them was out of focus. I did need to get used to the lack of a built-in viewfinder however but found that by taking more of my pics from a shady vantage point it significantly reduced the problem - even with my dodgy eyesight.

I just love this little camera and I do hope you will too and hey maybe one day we will even be on the same tour ..... maybe the President's tour in 2010 Wink

Best regards Roger
