I'm wondering if the Paris Illuminations & Dinner is a driving tour and if the Seine Cruise & Illuminations ever includes dinner? I have been on a Seine Dinner & Illuminations Cruise (with Bateaux Parisiens)while traveling independently with my daughter in 2007. It was ONE of the highlights of my vacation! Big Grin Not sure if I should go this route again instead of the offered optionals while on the European Heritage tour in July. If anyone has done the two Paris optionals I have referred to, what was your take and what would you recommend?

When we did the Seine cruise last fall, it was in the afternoon, with no dinner. It was half an hour one way and then back.

SmilerHI Solittletime: when I did European Heritage on Sept. 2007 The Seine Iluminations Cruise was early evening with no dinner but then was another Optional Dinner after that (very good) sorry that I do not remember the name of the restaurant. I have one week left to start my 2 insight Tours May 1st. The Bohemian then Verona Italy for 6 days to visit my friend then back to 2nd Tour May 16 Northern Capital and Russia. I am hoping that this time I will take more time to writte my notes. Chiao VictoriaR

OUr tour director made up a combination night. We did the illuminations bus trip. That was lovely. Then we had a wonderful French dinner at a restaurant, followed by a later night cruise. It was perfect timing, the tower was sparkling. Smiler

It depends on what the tour director has organised. I have twice been to Paris and both times have done the Seine River Cruise with the Illuminations tour. Dinner was not included on either.

The first time we arrived back at the hotel around 9.30pm not having had any dinner. Some of us ended up going to a cafe not far from the hotel for an omelette because we were starving. The second time we did the Louvre first and found somewhere to have dinner there. The big dinner out was on the second night at Nouvelle Eve/Moulin Rouge.

Thanks for the replies. I'm a little disappointed that it's not the "full meal deal." When we did the dinner cruise with Bateaux Parisiens we got on a glass topped boat at 7:45 pm with a live orchestra playing and cruised down the Seine enjoying all the sights along the way and dining on a 4 course meal complete with champagne and wine. When it was over at 11:00 pm we got off right by the Eiffel Tower. It was almost magical being able to see it during the day and then lit up at night. So, depending on my traveling partner, we may just pass on the Insight Paris optionals, except for the Louvre tour and do the dinner cruise. It was actually less in Canadian dollars than the Moulin Rouge optional that is offered for 144 euros. Food for thought . . .

VictoriaR, if Claus Sickingen-Hohenburg is your TD on your Bohemia tour, please say hi to him from me. He was the TD for the BB tour last October. A lovely gentleman and a great TD.

I felt a bit ripped off on the Illumination optional. It was summer so of course the lights don't come on until much later than normal. We had dinner and went to see the non-lighted sights and the tower but it was still light until about 10 Pm and we were back at our hotel by then.
