When we went to Figlmullers, we did not have reservations and were seated immediately. This is definitely a must to visit. Dragon is correct that it is only a 10 minute walk from the Vienna Hilton at Stadtpark.

Hi VictoriaR
Not very often do you meet a fellow tour member on the board. I think the American tour starts when you leave the USA hence the 26th the tour starts in Vienna on the 27th of September for us. We are having four days in Paris before starting the Highlighs of Eastern Europe. We are looking forward to meeting you. See you in Vienna.
Cheers

Do not take the lunch cruise optional in Budapest. I recall that it is something like 35 Euros. We declined the optional but were still able to take the cruise at no extra cost. This was at the discretion of the tour director.

Two years ago I did the optional dinner cruise with about twenty others and it was awesome.
We all enjoyed the food and wonderful sights at night.

Last year on my Highlights tour of Eastern Europe, I did the lunch cruise in Budapest and had a great time. The scenery was beautiful and the food was great. I thought it was worth the money I paid. I wouldn't skip this optional.

Wasn't the lunch optional 35 Euros? I still think that is pretty expensive for a "lunch" and an hour and a half cruise.

Having done this tour in 2005 I can concur that the lunch was excellent and both my wife and myself considered it good value.

This particular optional happens very early in the tour and as such offers the group a chance to mingle with each other and form the group bonds that in some instances can last for years.

When on holiday budget is important but for me the whole purpose of a holiday is to engage in the process....so it follows if you are going to join a touring group, then its only a natural expectation that you participate. If you like to do your own thing well that's your prerogative, but it raises the question should you have chosen this type of holiday experience. Enjoy Enjoy Enjoy...for us this was the best European tour we've ever done we're actually tempted to do it again..(We've done several tours of Europe)but loved this one and did ALL optionals.
