I am thinking of taking the "European Journey" Essential Tour next August. European Explorer is a Premium (and more expensive) tour. I would love to hear opinions from anyone who has done a Premium or Essential tour and what is the difference.
I am 64 and would be paying a single supplement. Would really appreciate any information. Thank you in advance. |

Hi Moggy,
I haven't taken an Essentials (or SuperSaver) tour but the topic "First Class Tours v's Super Saver Tours" summarises the main differences. phil |

The link Phil passed on has excellent advice. I wanted to pass on my experiences. I have done both types of tours and enjoyed both styles. I took the Country Roads of Italy tour in June and although it was a Premium tour and lots of extras were included I still spent over A$800 on Optionals, again it depends on whether you want to do the Optionals offered. Most of the Optionals I did were evening tours and included a dinner. I thoroughly enjoyed the SS tours I did and never worried about the distance of the hotels. We usually arrived at the hotel late afternoon and left early morning.
Whatever tour you choose you will have a fabulous time and meet many interesting and fun people. Remember we are all on holiday and looking to enjoy ourselves. Happy travelling |

YonYon and Phil thank you for your replies. It will be my first overseas trip so I am doing lots of research. The forums are great as I have picked up lots of tips. As it will probably be my one and only trip I want to get it right.

Hi Moggy
I tried to send you a note, but somehow it just copied your letter. Thank you for asking that question as I was thinking of taking a trip next year as well and I to have to travel alone. Sometimes, you just do not know what trip to take and boy do I agree with you. It is my first trip that is not a church group Laverne |

I would think twice about spending on the single supplement as those who travel by themselves but do not pay the supplement often end up in a room by themselves. It will depend on how many book for your tour.
When the singles have been roomed together they seem to strike up a strong attachment and certainly help each other along the way. If you really prefer your privacy then pay the extra. |

I did think about sharing Bellbird, but when talking to experienced travellers I changed my mind. I am a light sleeper and could be roomed with a snorer. I also like my privacy and can afford the single supplement.
As this is my first and probably last venture into overseas travel, I really don't want to take the chance and spoil my holiday. |

I'm with you Moggy (metaphorically). I wouldn't dream of not paying for the guarantee of privacy. I have been on a number of trips were some singles have asked if they could pay to not share - not worth the risk.

I always pay the single supplement. Even when travelling with friends, we all have our own rooms. I also am a light sleeper, (my family calls me "dog ears") because I hear every little thing. I could never take the chance of being roomed with someone who snores or wants to watch TV all hours. I live in an apartment building, and that's bad enough. I want peace for the days I'm away. Not only the noise issue, but I like the privacy. I like not having to wait for somebody to finish up in the bathroom either.
