Hello fellow travellers,
Does anyone have any advice on what to do about laundry detergent (now that I'm resigned to the fact that I will have to do laundry in the tub)? Do you bring your own? Do you use regular soap? Any suggestions on what might pack well? Thanks in advance |

Dear Lisa
I purchased travel detergent in a tube but was also available in liquid form. I packed it in a plastic bag in my suitcase. When I ran out I used the shampoo supplied by the hotels which worked very well. It also made by clothes smell nice. Happy travelling. |

I always take a cake or two of laundry soap and also use whatever supplies might be in the bathroom at the hotel. The soap goes in a standard soap holder and then in a zip lock bag and no spillage. A cake lasts a long time, much more efficient than liquid detergent.

I take a cake of Sard Laundry Soap also. I just throw it out when I'm finished at the end.

I have taken both the tube and the Sard soap on different trips and they both work just fine,The shampoo would work well also as after all it is soap to a degree.I have heard of people who wash their smalls while showering so guess that would be easy.

We take large ziplock bags, and found travel size Woolight at one of the travel supply sites. A pack of ten is only about the size of a deck of cards.
Put the clothes in the bag, add the detergent, water, and shake. Easist method I have used yet. Rinse, wring them dry, then roll in an absorbent towel (I brought my own just for this use). Then we would hang them to finish drying. We only did hand washing on two nights stays of the trip. I like the Woolight because it seems easy to rinse out, and softens at the same time. I also put a couple of clothing hangers in the bottom of my suitcase to hang things on to dry. Not all hotels had removable hangers. Or you could use a travel clothes line, also available at travel supply stores on the web. I have already bought my supplies for our upcoming trip in Sept to Italy. Kathie |

Hi Lisa
I just pack a small amount of powder detergent in an airtight plastic container for washing clothes. Have always found this useful without taking up too much room in my luggage. Always take my own shampoo/conditioner as I find the hotel supplied ones are terrible for my hair. I was on a tour once & The maide said If you have any washing leave it out by the table & She said she would get it washed for me and sure enough that evening it was all done & returned to my room. It was really kind of her.I never find it a problem. Its all part of Travelling.
