Going on the Italian Escapade tour - will I need to pack my hair dryer, or do most/all of the hotels supply them in guest rooms?

Hi, We went on Italian Escapades last year and every hotel we stayed at had in room hair dryers. They were mostly the small dryers which are ok for short hair. If you have long hair or are use to styling your hair, it might take you a few more minutes.

Most hotels do have a hairdryer. Most are slow and practically useless if you have long hair. I take my own with me, along with the hair iron. Though in doing this, some hotels do not have a powerpoint located near a mirror, so you are doing your hair blind so to speak. Mostly, if I arrived at a hotel and it had a powerpoint near a mirror, I washed my hair at that hotel. Having long and very thick hair I only washed it every third or fourth day. On my recent trip there was a lady with short hair who complained about how long it took her to dry her hair.

You shouldn't need to take your own hair dryer. What you might want to do is check on the hair dryer in your room when you first arrive. If it isn't working, the front desk usually has a spare they can lend you.

I've got shoulder length hair, basically if you care about your hair style, then bring your own hair dryer.
The worst hairdryers are units attached wall in the bathroom (looks like a vacuum cleaner hose). Those things barely dry your hair before the handle heats up to the point that you just give up. Every now and then a hotel will have a normal hair dryer and I would actually have my hair looking close to what I do at home. |

Having very long thick hair and as a seasoned traveller, I would never leave my hair dryer at home again. When you are overseas, your hair never behaves as it does at home, mainly because of the different water types and shampoos if you use those provided by the hotel. I use the hard cake soap shampoo from lush and find this is excellent for travelling. I also take my hair irons, which have on occasion come in handy for ironing out creases in trousers when you don't have a proper iron.

what's all this hair dryer guff? Why not have your head shaved? No combing necessary, no dryer to take up luggage space, no place for wildlife to lurk and you can always vary the look with a wig!
Whatever did women do before hair dryers existed? |

Suits me! I look like a cave man anyway! My wife sometimes tells me I smell like one too! |

I say forget using a blow dryer and just let it air dry. If your hair is long, put it in a ponytail or some updo that can be done in a few minutes. You're on vacation!!
