I took the Country Roads of Italy tour in June this year. I did an optional that took in an Etruscan excavation, Frances Mayer's house and Cortona. We also visited a Cathedral before we went into Cortona that had the mummified body of a saint on display. Can a fellow BB please tell me the name of the Cathedral. I look at my pictures and have googled but the name escapes me. Thanks in advance.

Happy travelling.

Hello,

The church is called Santa Margherita Basilica, and I was astounded to see her in full view. Especially since I once had an Aunt Marguerite who was named for this saint!

Dear Leslielou

Thank you very much for your quick response. I can now fill in the blanks on my photos. I knew a BB would be able to help me.

Are you going to write a TT of your adventures?

Happy travelling.

I could never forget Santa Margherita Bascilica. The tour guide we had was such a scream. He clearly loved Margherita, but was not very fond of the dog that was depicted with her in paintings and sculptures. I wonder if either of you had him as your tour guide too?

Hi! Our tour guide in Cortona was Debbie, she was a nice young girl, very polite and soft spoken. There weren't any jokes being made that day about the life and times of this saint! L.

I can't remember his name, but our tour guide was married to a girl from Texas and he was hysterical. Spoke very quickly was non-religious and kept saying his Mother would have disowned him if they didn't get married in the local church. He is a carpenter by trade and built a piece of furniture that was used in the filming of 'Under the Tuscan Sun'. He said he knows Frances Mayer quite well.

Happy travelling.

It sounds like it was the same guy, Giovanni. He really was hysterical. He had a bit of a cold and said something like my poor, pathetic weak body can't fight this. He really did make a lot of fun of his mother. I do remember him talking about a piece of furniture he made that appeared in Under the Tuscan Sun. He did seem to know Frances Mayes. He was a very funny guy. Wish there were more guides like him.
