I was wondering if anyone can advise what the recommended time is to check-in a CDG airport please? I see that all companies which do shared airport transfers, pick up about 3 hrs before which means that by the time you dirve around and collect other passengers you will probably get to the airport about 2 hrs before. Had considered the RER but would have to catch the Metro to get to the station. How busy is the Metro on a Sunday morning about 8.00 am? Third option we are considering is the Air France transfer shuttle but that will still involved dragging suitcases onto the Metro, not an option which appeals to me unless it is quite Sunday mornings.
Thanks |

Three hours is advised but I wouldn't worry just yet if you are using the Insight coach. On my recent tour the TD found out departure times and adjusted the coach transfer times to suit the most amount of people. However if you're organising this on your own I would suggest you check out the airport transfer companies again as they should be able to get you to the airport in time for your three hour check in time. Maybe your travel agent could help.

I have flown out of CDG three times, it is a very busy and crowded airport. I used the shuttle service provided by the hotel and found them excellent. The hotel organised the shuttle for me and they ask what time your flight is so they know what time to pick you up. I think 3 hours is about the right amount of time to be there before your flight departs.

Many thanks Colleen and Langers. I am thinking we will use a shuttle service. Might have to contact them because I was a bit confused, I thought they pick up about 3 hours before the flight which would mean by the time we pick other passengers up and drive to CDG there would be considerably less time.

Hi Crow Eaters
I have to make my own way to CDG airport and was considering getting a taxi. My travel agent thought that the price wouldn't be that much different from a shuttle and you can just go straight to the airport rather than picking others up as you do in a shuttle. If anyone has any ideas/comments I'd welcome them. I'm staying in the Opera district. JenMM |

Hi JenMM, I stayed in the Opera district on my first visit to Paris, it is a good district, but not so safe to walk around at night. I think a taxi from there to CDG airport could cost up to 60 Euro or more if the traffic is bad. The shuttle service is a better and cheaper option, in my opinion. They calculate the time of your flight to what time they pick you up and they only make a few stops, usually all in the same area.
Crow Eaters, the shuttle service always asks what time your flight is so you will ALWAYS be picked up in time for check in, this I can guarantee. |

We used the shuttle service from CDG. It worked fine and was cheaper than a taxi. I got the link from tuppence:
www.parishuttle.com We used the shared option and booked online. |

We used a shuttle last time.. lucky me got the front seat going round the Arc de Triomphe..eeekk!
It got us here in plenty of time and will do it this time also. They usually work it so you are there in plenty of time. Easier than taking all your stuff on the Metro. Britian/Ireland Explorer 25 August 2009 Romantic European 2007 |

I used a shuttle service that was paid for in advance - something like Dot2Dot.
I found we were at the airport well in time, but not too much. Just enough to check in and look around the shops. Not too much time in the airport lounge before being taken by the airport transport to the tarmac. I found it quite unusual to have to board the aircraft by climbing the metal stairs from the tarmac. I think you might find the metro really busy at 8am in the morning, it is still in peak hour at that time. I don't have any problem using the metro, but I don't think it would be very easy at peak hour with luggage. |

A big thanks to everyone for the advice, I am overwhelmed with the great response. I am convinced about using a shuttle service, looking a bit closer, some allow you to adjust the time of pick up, so it's all good.
Actually Gennevive having to board the aircraft from the tarmac would bring back memories of having to board in Adelaide only 9 or so years ago. Thanks once again and we will be seeing some of you in London probably next week. Cheers |
