We're going on Road to Rome in September - any ideas on what type of clothing to take with?? Would we require anything other than casual attire??

I'm so glad you asked this! I am wondering the same thing. Italy in September... what should I expect? I looked online and it seemed I was looking at the high 70's for most of the trip, but we will be there early September to mid-September, I would think it would be warmer. I also expect the lakes region on our trip will be cooler than the rest but don't have a jacket, maybe I should bring a sweater?

I am hoping to avoid packing anything unnecessarily. Especially anything too formal.

Definitely nothing formal!!! Smart casual for the few evenings you might want to dress up a bit. You should take a sweater or jacket as it sometimes is chilly on the bus. I was there in late Sept.-early Oct. and it was still warm.
Take as few clothes as possible. Pick 1-2 basic colors and choose items that mix and match. Plan on doing some hand washing in places where you have 2 night stays.

Yes, take a swimsuit. There is usually one hotel with a pool. I've not stayed at any of your listed hotels so I can't tell. You may not have time to use it but a suit takes up so little room. And instead of an umbrella, I usually pack a few of those $1 rain ponchos. In my 7 trips, I've had only 3-4 rainy days and the ponchos were much easier to carry around than dealing with an umbrella. I would make sure I had another pair of shoes in case my shoes got soaked and I couldn't get them dried out for the next day. You will be doing a lot of walking and you don't want blisters!

I am doing the Treasures of the Balkans, Dalmatia and Islands in September and I have a question for the men out here. Do we need to pack a blazer or sports jacket for the evening in this region of Europe? In Italy, I agree, it is dressier in the evening. But last year in Eastern Europe no one except the TD wore a sports jacket. Would like to know which direction the fashion compass points with regards to menswear in the Dalmatian region? Happy travels to everyone.
