Hi
As a person who has a fear of heights, eg, going up the Eiffel Tower, Chair lift to the top of Mt Pilatus in Lucerne, is there anything that I should be concerned about on the Country Roads of Italy Tour? I am ok on buses that travel up steep windy roads, I managed to get up to the Eagles Nest in Austria, even though I had to sit on the floor of the coach so I couldn't see out the window. What I am concerned about is the funiclular on the Isle of Capri tour. Can anyone fill me in?? Cheers Gen 'Life's a Journey, Not a Destination. (Amazing - Aerosmith) |

Hi Gen,
I have a similar phoebia, but I think mine is not as severe as yours. For example, I can stay in my seat on the bus. But I am quite uncomfortable when in/on anything suspended such as bridges or cable cars. Funny, but that sensation does not apply to being in an airplane. So here's what I do.... I keep reminding myself that I didn't pay all that money and travel all that distance to not take everything in to the fullest extent. Then I gulp back the fear and go for it. Easier said than done at times, but always done. I hope this helps you find a way. Leslie |

The funicular on Isle of Capri is quite a large enclosed "car" and doesn't move very fast, so you probably will be okay. The bus ride up to Ana Capri however is a thrill ride in itself. Small busses going very fast on the edge of the cliff, you may want to skip that, and take the funicular up. The views from up there are spectacular.

I am re-opening this topic because guess what??? I actually made it on the bus ride to Capri and Positano. Admittedly I did close my eyes a lot, but I did take a few sneaky peeks. Coming down in the funicular was easy peasy. I think the scariest part of this tour was actual the White Cruise. The water was really very rough and the aparent absence of life jackets was somewhat a concern for many of the elderly ladies on the tour. I am sure there must have been some somewhere, but they certainly were not visible. I love Italians - they are so relaxed about everything.
