On my recent tour, our TD offered an optional to Ostia Antica. Not sure how you might find out if it will be offered on your tour, so you might as well do on your own before the tour start. It is well worth the effort. Areas are better preserved than pompeii, etc. Have a great trip.
Happy Trails!!

Thanks for the reply. What tour did you take in Italy? Also, what hotel did you stay in Rome? Thanks! quote: Originally posted by johninwa: On my recent tour, our TD offered an optional to Ostia Antica. There is a GREAT place not far from Grand Hotel Beverly Hills. It is: Al Simeto. It is on Via San Simeto 34, around the corner from the hotel, and down a block and a half, then across the street. When you leave the hotel, turn left.
Hopefully the place is still there, as it has been a few years. It is not a tourist place, as we have seen only locals there. It is not expensive, great pasta, great wine.
Near the Trevi Fountain, there is another great very small place: Piccolo Aranico, on Vicolo Scanderberg 112, a block east of the Trevi. It is down a very narrow alley, with a few sidewalk tables. Very good food, and reasonable for Rome. Again, if it is still there, as it has been a few years.
I suggest you read several of the existing Journals on this board, including mine (Amazing Italy) to gain further insight as to things to do and see on your own.

Hi Marv, Thanks for the info - I did read your travel tale - very interesting. I am really looking forward to my trip. Sounds like you and your family really like Italy too. Just wondering where you are located in NC - I grew up in the Charlotte area, but have lived in FL for over 30 yrs.
