Are there facilities in the hotels Insight uses in Ireland and Scotland to either do own laundry or have laundry done for you? Most stays are only one night so is turn around time possible?

I have not been on this tour, but have found that your best bet is to take travel [quick drying] blouses, undies and socks. I use Tilley. You want something that will dry in few hours or at most, overnight. You can take blouses for the evenings that do not need washing for a few wears.

We were in Scotland and Ireland in June and found that laundry was very easy when we stayed 2 nights. We took blow up hangers (learned about these in this forum!) which hold the layers of clothes apart. We handwashed in the bathroom ASAP after arrival and even the thickest fleeces were dry by departure. A couple of times we resorted to the hair dryer for hems though! In Killarney several people on our tour used a laundry just near the hotel (The Killarney Towers) who was very reasonable. I think that denim is not so good as it takes too long to dry. My husband wore those nylon type of hiking or travel pants and shirts which were both comfortable and quick drying (Columbia was the brand we found at home). I liked them as they did not need ironing!!! I found anything with a bit of polyester or lycra easy to handle.
I think though the thing that I learned was that everyone on the tour was in the same boat and that you could wear clothes more times than you would at home - I wash everything after one wear! No one was very worried. we were too busy having fun to worry about what we were wearing!

For years I have been using balloons. Just take different sizes. The small long skinny ones are great for sleeves. They only cost penney's at Walmart. The grand kids love the leftover ones when you get back. Blow them up and stick them in sleeves and body of cloths. They dry much quicker and hold all the fabric apart better than blow up hangers. They take up no room and you can just break them after you dry your cloths.

When we were in Scotland, we asked about laundromats and hiked to one of them. As it tends to be quite humid, some items will not be dry by morning if you handwash. I love the balloon idea submitted by South, too. The inflatable hangers are nice but weigh far more than a handfull of balloons. Take synthetics which dry quickly (and can be layered for warmth if needed). Kristine had swell information in her post, as well. If you wear clothes 3 or 4 times before washing, a scarf or other accessory will help you to be less tired of your options. You also won't have to pack as much if you wear each outfit more times. Have a great trip!

I have what is probably a dumb question about the balloons.
Putting them in the sleeves makes sense to me but how do you get them to stay in place in the body of a blouse or top?

You use a larger round balloon. They work great.
