I have had some great advice from this BB so I want to share my latest great find. I am sure some will be interested, especialy with the restrictions for carrying liquids and the risk of spillage in your luggage.

In the past I have picked up shampoo and conditioner when I arrived in England. As I have a few flights involved in my next trip I decided to check out some cake shampoo and conditioner that I came across in 'Lush'. Lush sells all different types of soaps - even chocolate soap. I consulted with the sales assistant and she suggesested the types that would best suit my hair type and a conditioner that is basically one type for all. In all I purchased two different cakes of shampoo and one of conditioner.

When I left the shop I was still somewhat sceptical as to whether these would work for me. Well let me tell you, I have tried them and they are really fantastic. I have long, very thick hair. I spend a fortune to keep it in good condition. This cake shampoo and conditioner is excellent, my hair didn't tangle and it dried really shiny, feels lovely and soft and smells great.

Best of all, it takes up only a teensy bit of room in the suitcase.

Hi,

This product was discussed on the Trafalgar BB recently so I checked it out at a Lush store in the GTA. I find that the products are, in fact, very strongly scented. By any chance, you didn't notice if they have an unscented version?

I too heard about the shampoo on the ttbb and went into Lush to check it out. It is very perfumed but I am going to give it a try when we go away in November. There was one that was a shampoo and conditioner in one.

Cheers Denise

I just happened upon these, I had not read about them anywhere.

The two shampoo cakes that I bought were for blonde hair to bring out the highlights and a second one for extra shine. They are scented, but the conditioner wasn't. The condidtioner is actually very ugly to look at, it looks like the old fashioned green soap and is called 'Jungle' It is a pleasant smell, the shampoo's are more scented but the day after the scent smell in your hair has mostly gone.

I am just so taken away by how lovley my hair feels, and how easy it is to use. I may never use liquid shampoo again!!

I am usually very sensitive to perfumes and steer clear of anyone wearing a strong perfume, as some trigger massive migraines, but I am ok with these, they are mostly made from plants. They also have shampoo and soap that is suitable for different water types.

I really do think they are a great find. I am sure if you went to the store and spoke with the consultant she would be able to recommend something suitable for you. I think they probably even have a web site.

If you buy it, I would highly recommend that you try it out at home before you leave.

I am headed off to Italy in 29 days and will definately be taking these with me.

Cheers
Gen

Also... I see that Coles now has a whole section selling travel sized items of all descriptions. In the health and beauty aisle. They have just about everything in tiny bottles now!!

We don't take soap or shampoo and conditioner when we travel as we have never stayed in an Insight hotel that didn't provide them. They are a different brand at each hotel - some quite good quality - but it is several fewer things we have to take with us.We are off to Italy next month and I'm sure the hotel rooms will be stocked with toiletries. We have Lush stores here in Alberta so I bet they have them in the US. My 21 year old daughter has very long, color treated hair and loves the Lush products. She has traveled overseas numerous times and always takes her Lush soap in a tin as it also doubles as a shampoo. The hotels always supply bar soap, shampoo and conditioner and sometimes body wash although I prefer to take travel sizes of my own. I even found a travel size of 45 SPF Hawaiian Tropic in Walmart and at London Drugs I was even able to purchase travel size vitamins, which came in handy since they should be in their original packaging. Since European hotels do not provide facecloths I took my own. I found little travel ones that were super compressed in one of our dollar stores but haven't found them since last year although I came across something similar in Save On Foods and Walmart. They are packaged about the size of a roll of Mentos. Some hotels provide sponges but I've never been in a hotel overseas that supplies facecloths. I am all about organization and preparation so I shop around months before "take off." I have my list from my 3 week vacation last year so know what stays home and what needs to go. It helps getting tips from fellow travelers about must haves . . . like the inflatable hangars. Big Grin

I'm sure if you go to the website (www.lush.com), you can order directly from them for find out the location nearest to you.

I know the hotels all provide amenities, especially the ones for Insight tours but on a tour of Prague, Budapest & Vienna (the Bohemian) we stayed mainly at Hilton hotels and the product there was very strongly scented and not to my liking. I actually went out and bought a bar of soap at the grocery store because, for the first time, I travelled without bringing my "emergency" supply.

Dukemum,
The very first Lush store I saw was in Hawaii 3 years ago. My husband complained every time we walked past it because of the very strong smell. Lo and behold, when we arrived home my son's girlfriend gave me some Lush soap for my birthday. Hubby was not too impressed, so I don't think I'll be taking any of the shampoo or conditioner on this trip. Because we'll be travelling for 3 months, I'm going to rely on that provided by the hotels.
