Now is the best time to book an Alaskan cruise. Use Holland America on a southbound itinerary from Seward included in the 14 day cruisetour.

Has anyone cruised on Holland America?

Hello General Max,
My husband and I did the Holland America cruise the Inside Passage to the Glacier Bay on the Nieuw Amsterdam a few years ago. The cruise was brilliant and I can't speak highly enough of Holland America. If we cruise again we will use that line. It was a wonderful trip. Hope this has been of help. Sandie |

Thanks, Sandie. We also cruised the inside passage with Holland America in August 2004. This was our first cruise ever and it was outstanding.
We have continued to cruise HAL and have been on the Ryndam, Westerdam and Noordam. We plan to go on their next new ship for the Inaugural Cruise in the Baltic Sea in July, 2008. Cheers General Max |

Beware Max, of going on an inaugural cruise - we did that in 2001 and found the junior staff were all new and didn't know the ship. The first night, the waiter took about 10 minutes to find our table - we had a tour of the whole dining room!

ZGordon, we were on the February 22, 2006 inaugural cruise of the Noordam out of New York City. The experience was outstanding with the events and memorabilia handed out on board. The crew was experienced being assembled from the rest of their fleet (no new hires). We even received an invitation to the onboard Mariner luncheon on the day before the cruise.

Hi 'All', my husband and I leave in May for our 4th& 6th Insight tours. We noticed on the Holland America that there are 2 'Formal' nights on board and are now wondering if my husband needs to take a jacket for normal dinners and hire a Tux onboard for the formals. We're doing back to back & really don't fancy dragging suits etc along with us. Any hints

Joanne, jackets are not required in the main dining room except for formal nights. You can eat in the Lido restaurant any night of the cruise in casual clothes and also order the dining room menu via room service. Tuxedos can also be rented through HAL for about 125 US.
Formal nights also apply to all public areas such as the Casino and showroom and bars. Cheers General Max |

Many thanks GM, I was starting to be a bit concerned re: 20 kgs in the cases but that's great.

My husband takes his suit for formal nights on HAL. About half of the men do.
