LastminuteSue, I have no plans to go to Disneyland or Los Angeles for that matter. I may return to Disneyworld in maybe 2020 on a day when it is raining.

Sue, don't give up. That would be like Max giving up... Big Grin The recent posts were meant for ALL those who tell other people where to go and not go. Someone told you not to go to game shows. But, if that's what you like, you should go. By the way, congrats on your prizes. What a great trip, to win a car, etc. Smiler

Linda, you are right. I never give up. I may go away for a while but I eventually come back to the subject to get things going again. I am not done with the war in Iraq just like some of the Iraqis aren't.

Max, PLEASE don't go there. Razzer We've had enough. And to TThompson, since I have a sister living in Karlsbad just north of San Diego I did some checking myself because I'd love to treat her this winter to a day in the city. There's a hop-on-off trolley for 1 day pass at USD$24. Check www.shop.viator.com For Tara, who started this thread, there are lots of expensive tours but no hop-on-off in LA. It's so sprawling and there's so much to see (all of it terrific, I might add.) It's hard to pack it all in when we travel, isn't it? Smiler

tthompson,

You said that you fly stand by. How does that work? Can anyone do that and how much do you save?

BJ, its difficult to ignore the Iraq war particularily when its not over. I guess things will never settle down in the Mid East.

lyb, thank goodness someone actually realises how many of we overseas "tourists" view the original Disneyland.
I can hit the "wild rides" anytime in Australia, but Disneyland is just something different. It's true. Yes, we all know it's a totally fake world, its rides are quaint rather than adrenalin-pumping, but that is just part of its charm.
I had already booked 8 weeks of travel in the US, when my Mum found out that I was going to Disneyland, and she did the "can I come, because your Dad will NEVER go!" routine. It was almost a repetition of the spiel I did as a kid/teenager when she and my Dad had flown off on some fabulous overseas jaunt! And I had to stay behind with relatives/friends. How times change!

So Mum joined me for an unplanned 16 days out of those 8 weeks. She flew in and out from Australia by herself (she left Dad at home, because it "wasn't really his thing, even though he was tempted by Hawaii") and met me in L.A. We "did" Disneyland, Mexico and L.A. and had a wonderful time together. And I had a fabulous time. My Mum is very "young in spirit and age", so it was like travelling with a friend. I laughed and laughed and laughed. I even changed my travel plans slightly so we could travel through Hawaii(Oahu) together. I'd never been there. My Mum(and Dad)had, several times, so I drove and my Mum was my tour guide for the main surf beaches etc. Scary when your MUM introduces YOU to Pipeline, Sunset and Waimea!!! AND gives you tips on how to surf them! I didn't bring my board because of my further travels- but gee, I wish I had seen my Mum "out there". Given the slightest opportunity-she would have been. How embarassing!!!
After our fun together, and she had flown back home, I went off on my own.

tthompson- I doubt whether you would ever find any substantial tours of Southhampton. It does have a "migration" and embarkation history, but the docks and town themselves are not a tourist "hotspot", to the best of my knowledge. You may find some local "previously employed" guides, but I doubt if a conventional city tour operates. It just isn't that "significant" a place.

Just that we all enjoy reading about your travel experiences with your mum. Why not tell us about travel with your significant other?
