Tara,
Sue is right, that is a great location for the bus. I wouldn't stop at only Beverly Hills though, stop have a bite, shop, shop some more, then go onto Santa Monica. The promenade is really nice, also you can go on the Santa Monica Pier. They have great rides, little shops and a lot of interesting people. Have a cold beer at Deans bar, and have one for my dad. He used to go there everyday and play cards and watch the great looking people on the beach. This thread really makes me homesick. Smiler If you get to Hollywood there is a great restaurant to get a super hamburger, its called the Hamburger Hamlet. Good food and pretty reasonable priced. Across the street is the Graumans Chinese theater, fun to see.

Sue, I am a dingy blonde from LA, I only got on the newlywed game, and won nothing.
Frowner
Ciao and good luck,
Kathy

I will have 2 days in San Diego in October prior to an Hawaii cruise - aside from Sea World and the zoo does anyone have any suggestions as to what is interesting to see? Also how safe is San Diego for a single older female traveler. Thanks for any input.

San Diego is a beautiful town with lots to do. If you are adventerous, there is a trolly that takes you right to the US / Mexico border. You can then walk into Mexico (Tijuana) for a whole new experience. Mexico has lots of fun shopping spots (take your passport). All the spots are within walking distance of the trolly. If you stay with the crowds, you should have no problems. The zoo is great, but also the museums that are part of Balboa Park (1200 Acre recreational center). You might also try Old Town San Diego / State Historic Park. There is also the Maritime Museum and Cabrillo National Monument. Mike

LastMinuteSue,

>> that going to Los Angeles and visiting Disneyland is a waste because you can visit theme parks in your own home town, you don't need to do it in Los Angeles...<<

There's a Disneyland in Toronto? Wow, I didn't know that....To compare Disneyland to any other amusement park is like comparing a carnival at a local church vs Carnival in New Orleans.

Disneyland is magical and although I wouldn't recommend someone go to Disneyland in Paris, I would certainly recommend it in Anaheim. It is the ORIGINAL Disneyland and it is not an ordinary amusement park by any means.

Disneyworld in Orlando? Been there, done that. But it has been years since I have been there. Why? Too many tourists.

lyb, I certainly did know tourists go there but I never realized how many. The number is more than I care to contend with.

lyb, no offense, but unless you're into rides, theme parks are for kids.

I repeat - would you go to Paris and visit EuroDisney? Duh!!!! Big Grin

LastMinuteSue,

No, I wouldn't go to EuroDisney, that's not what Europe is for, but Disneyland, the original is not only rides. It's a feeling and to see the creative talents of people who can put together such shows as Fantasmic, or have it snow in the middle of Disneyland, it is amazing.

Amusement parks are one thing, but Disneyland is NOT an amusement park.

lyb and lastminuteSue, we were to Disneyland in 1994 and were not impressed. Anaheim and the area around Disneyland is crammed and congested. Disneyland is small in comparison to Disneyworld here in Orlando.

Disney realized their mistake when they built Disneyland and subsequently purchased a lot more land for Disneyworld to act as a buffer for the tacky tourist development that followed.

That is not to say that there isn't a lot of tacky tourist development related to Disneyworld. There is, but it is away from the theme parks and not visible from Disney hotels or parking lots.
