I am considering this tour and I think it is new for next year. Does anyone know anything about it or the places it goes to?

Phil: i tried to put the map of the trip in here, and wasn't able to. how do I do it?

For future reference, to include a graphic in a BB post, the simplest method is as follows:

  1. right-mouse click on the graphic and select "properties" which will bring up a window as shown below
  2. select the "address/URL" text
  3. in your BB post, insert "IMG" enclosed by square brackets, then the "address/URL" text and finally "/IMG" enclosed by square brackets

There are also some refinements in this coding to place the graphic to the left, centre or right. These are all defined in the help section of the BB.

ZGordon,

I just rejoined the Insight BB, so if this response is of no value to you, please disregard.

If you are still wishing to come to New England, I think you will enjoy what you see...

Boston...Fun city, good walking city, lots of historic sights can be found walking The Freedom Trail (Starts on Boston Common)Probably would not have enough time to do it on first day--it's about 3 miles on foot, maybe a little bit more.

Pittsfield---you are out in the Berkshire mountains of Massachusetts...real pretty in the Fall...nice mountain/valley scenery...Stockbridge, MA--home of Norman Rockwell Museum...quaint town...world renowned!
(Featured in James Taylor song 'Sweet Baby James')

Quechee Gorge--very enjoyable area. You can walk down to the bottom of the gorge, or stand on the bridge on Route 4 and look down at the gorge...tremendous views...Quechee Gorge also hosts a hot air balloon festival (usually happens in June) There is a huge Antique market
(Timber Village Antiques) about a 1/4 mile before the gorge, on Route 4)...'Simon Pierce' known for beautiful handmade glass items is also located in Quechee. His shop also houses other locale artisans in various mediums. I was pleasantly surprised the last time I was there--quite nice!

Woodstock--another quaint New England town...known for the Woodstock Inn...great walking town.

Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream---delightful, fun, delicous and thoroughly enjoyable...one of the most entrpreneurial businesses ever!!!

Franconia Notch---Use to be home to the "Old Man of the Mountains"---but he fell down Frowner ...still an interestng area...Profile Lake, The Flume and Franconia State Park---very pretty!

North Conway---Outlet Shopping area for northern NH...very commercialized...however, one of the most spectacular areas for scenic views...in the Valley. Two good places to go to dinner--Bellini's or Red Fox (Red Fox is closer to Jackson, NH)

Bretton Woods (huge vacation area-all seasons--ski area for families. Bode Miller is the skier in residence.

Mount Washington is the highest peak eastern United States--6188 ft above sea level...is known to have the highest recorded wind speed ever recorded 249mph. If you get to the top of Mt. Washington (via Auto Road, Cog Railway or on foot) there is a fabulous museum located in the Summit building. You can also access information about Mount Washington on-line at Mount Wahington Observatory.com

Portland, Maine--another terrific city for walking...the city has spent a lot of time and energy redevloping the waterfront area into an upscale area of pubs, restaraunts, shops and museums...all of this is next to a working fishing port. New this season (through October
2006) THE CAT is using Portland as its home port
Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, for trips between Portland, ME and Yarmouth, Nova Scotia.

Kennebunkport---Known as the summer home of George and Barbara Bush...but there is much more
to Kennebunkport with wonderful restaraunts (The White Barn--good luck with trying to get a reservation) talented artists and friendly people...antique stores and quality shops...Tom's of Maine Natural products is also in the neighborhood.

Portsmouth, NH--Another great walking city...small, winding streets will lead you to a variety of places...the waterfront, Ceres Street--good restaraunts, great shops, good pubs--Strawberry Banke--historical area...beautiful gardens...great old homes...
Is home to the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard...Wentworth-by-the-Sea is a grand old hotel, recently restored to beautiful glory and is located in NewCastle...a small town, next to
Portsmouth...you may see it in your travels.

Hope this has been of some help! Smiler

Thank you, Traveler. I still want to do this trip, but it won'e be this fall. We are waiting for our daughter to decide when her wedding is going to be.

It all sounds wonderful. I have taken a cruise in the area, but, of course saw only the coast. I understand the fall colours in the inland States are even more spectacular.

ZGordon,

Absolutely right!! The landscape of New England is extremely diverse...from ocean to the mountains and all the valleys, in between.

Hope you enjoy the area when you visit!
