Holland America is an excellant cruise line for an Alaskan cruise. Missy, check on the Rockymountaineer Rail Tour from Vancouver to Calgary. This is also an excellant two day trip.

I was planning on doing the Redleaf but taking a balcony cabin on the ship.

Have you been to Victoria & Prince Rupert?

Cheers

Missie, we traveled in Gold Leaf and enjoyed it.
We were to Victoria in 1994. It is worth seeing. We have never been to Prince Rupert.

Definitely get that balcony cabin on the Alaska cruise. Alaska was our first cruise and we booked a verandah suite. We definitely never regretted it.

Has anyone flown by Canada Air from Australia straight to Canada? Are they ok to travel with, we have only ever gone Qantas or Singapore and they go all aroung the world to get to Canada. We intend going in August and doing the 20 day tour. Any recommendations?

Have flown Air Canada from Australia to Hawaii and from Vancouver back to Hawaii on Qantas codeshare. I found the attention of the cabin crew to be wonderful and caring. The cabin crew we experienced were more "mature-aged" and I think this said a lot for their tolerance levels, if you can understand what I'm getting at, ie they kept their cool when required by demanding passengers. I would certainly fly with them again as my first choice for that particular route.

We flew Air Canada Vancouver/Honolulu and Qantas Honolulu/Melb (codeshare) a few years ago following a visit to Canada and Alaska. The Air Canada leg was vey good and would use them again for that route.

I have heard that Air Canada used to be good. But I suspect they have cut back like the US air carriers following 9/11.

Air Canada just came out of Bankruptcy protection a few months ago. Also one of Canada's discount carriers that was driving down prices for domestic travel has gone bankrupt and prices for domestic air travel are slowly rising. As a result Air Canada is now on fairly solid financial ground.

I prefer Air Canada to almost all American carriers. I find their service and amenities are superior. Also they have never managed to lose my luggague unlike 2 American carriers.

Rather than letting your suspicions get the better of you, you should do some research. Big Grin

Air Canada provides good service; the food on long haul flights is good and their baggage handling isn't bad.

As Jim says, the flight service and amenitities are superior to many an American company. While I have never used Air Canada for flights over 7 hours, I can attest to courteous service, punctual departures and arrivals and customer service that is hard to beat. In addition, I have seen children alone, mothers travelling alone with children and the elderly treated with care.

I can't say they are the best there is because I haven't travelled on every single airline, but having used the airline a lot I can tell you that I have very little to complain about.

Enjoy the flight!
