We are thinking about doing Glorious Alaskan Adventure & Cruise Tour which gets into Vancouver on the 8th August 2009 and the Grand Canadian Rockies Tour. The Canadian Tour starts on the 7th. August - gather this will only mean us missing out on the first night of the Tour. My question is has anyone had either of these tours cancelled at the last minute in 2008? I would be devastated if we book air flights and do all this planning and then at the last minute Insight decide to cancel one or both of the tours. I have seen on the board on a number of occasions where this has happened.
I don't know whether the answer to this is to just plan it without booking and then see what bookings are like with 2 months to go. I have read where Insight do not reimburse you with the airflights if a tour gets cancelled. We travelled with Insight this year on the CR Switzerland Tour and had a full bus. Was a fantastic holiday. Thanks Sue |

I would wait and book two months before the tour. Who knows what 2009 will bring with the worldwide economic problems.

I am a personal travel counsellor and I have had many clients travel with insight through Europ ena duSa & Canada. Unfortunatlly not booking a GTD tour you do risk it cancelling. COnsidering the recent economic climate this would be prudent more than ever. I woulde suggest paying a little for for your airfare and having change fees minimal or nil that was if the tour cancels and they offer an earlier or later departure, you can amend your flights with minimal impact. Bare in mind with Insight they always have their Trafalgar product to fall back on or alternatively there are other suppliers in the US and Canada (worst case scenario) In my experience, when a tour cancels, an alternative is always found.
