We also, our plane leaves at 14:40 which means being at the airport around 13:40, leaving home about 13:00 so plenty of time to pack in the morning. But the lists are getting longer! When you travel, remember that a foreign country is not designed to make you comfortable. It is designed to make its own people comfortable. |

At the moment I have 2 lists written out one is for any clothing sox etc we need to buy, Paul is terrible as he tells me he doesn't need anything until right at the last moment we find out he does so its a mad rush to the shops. My second list is for the week end before we leave, snacks medicines and what ever we think we might need.
We pack the day before we leave. For Paul no problem he just grabs what he is taking packs and he is finished. Me well I pack repack scratch my head and think do I really need this or should I take another something I am exhausted by time I am finished. I would of thought after all the times I have been on an overseas holiday I would be an experienced packer. Tupps |

I'm sitting here just laughing! I can't imagine such last minute packing. HA!
Tangata, we are told to be at the airport three hours ahead for an international trip. It's a bit crazy, but that's what they want so most obey. My first leg is actually domestic and from the "less used" terminal" but being the good person that I am (!!), I'll be there. Tupps, I don have a hubby, but my dad used to be that way too. We had to plan and pack for him! |

We normally pack the night before we leave.
Yes we also have a list and it is basically the same list that we have used for years. We just make minor changes to it depending on where we are travelling too (eg some clothing would different if we are going to say Egypt or Malaysia compared to say Alaska or Norway). |

Our first flight is also a domestic one from our local airport but we check in at a dedicated international area and clear Immigration before boarding. As there are unlikely to be more that half a dozen people on our flight who have international connections an hour is ample time. Once in Bangkok we are already "airside" so the only formality we have to worry about then is a final security check. The bad news is that we have a 4 hour 40 minute wait in Bangkok before we fly out. Then 7 hours to Dohar, 2 hours there and another seven hours to Paris. When you travel, remember that a foreign country is not designed to make you comfortable. It is designed to make its own people comfortable. |

Hi All, Besides clothes, toiletries, and a camera, what are all these lists for? You are making me nervous that I am not prepared. I pack the day of departure, throwing in what looks good. I might look up the weather for the week if I have time. Last time I travelled, the only thing I forgot was a raincoat (I won't make that mistake twice!)but I did have an umbrella. What am I missing? Thanks for any input.

Topmom: Don't get nervous - my list is mainly what clothes I think I might need/use and at the actual packing is subject to change.
I'm not that much of a 'list maker' and it is usually haphazard at best. |

topmom2000-I make a list of every little thing I take with me,including things in my checked baggage and carry-on, and keep one in my journal, one in my luggage and one at home (for next trip.) This way if my luggage is lost, I know exactly what was in there, should I have to report it. It is a great source of reference for future trips because then you can go back and leave the things at home you didn't need or add things that you wish you would have packed. About a week before my trip, I set out all the things I plan on taking, and most often rethink taking so much (20 pairs of undies! What on earth was I thinking??? There's such a thing as washing them. John,
I don't see a 4:00 am start as being easy! The worst thing I find is arriving in the early morning when nobody wants to know you and you can't get into your room until mid afternoon. On our first Insight trip we arrived in Istanbul at 7:30 and were delighted to find that the hotel had a room for us. There is no chance of that happening this time as we are joining a cruise and the previous group will still be in occupation when we arrive. So it will be straight off to walk Paris for a few hours. When I used to travel to the UK on business, I loved BA's lounge on arrival, a chance to shower, shave and change before heading for work and no need to travel in a business suit. See you in Frankfurt! When you travel, remember that a foreign country is not designed to make you comfortable. It is designed to make its own people comfortable. |
