Hi to all,
Is there anyone going or been on the above tour and would like to offer advice to two brand new members of the touring world. My wife and I are booked on the tour starting 16th August 2009 and it will be our FIRST trip anywhere overseas. Both have ancestral links with the U.K and are very excited to be going and learning more about where our families came from. We will also be celibrating our 32nd wedding aniversary on tour.

Hi Uncle Joe and welcome to the Bulletin Board.

Insight have two tours that travel through Britain and Ireland:
Both of these tours have starts on August 16 so I can't pin down which one you are doing.

If you look in the "Where Are All the Tales? topic [which sits permanently near the top of the Tour Tales forum], you will find links to a tour journal for each of these tours, written by a past traveller. I hope this will help you to gain a better appreciation of the day-to-day operation of these tours.

For general tour advice, look near the top of the General travel Advice forum where you will find the topics: A Collection of Links to Archived BB Travel Advice, Tips, Tour Weblinks & Checklists and INSIGHT's Guide to Budgeting for Tours.

I'm sure you will have a great tour being your first overseas trip and visiting ancestral links whilst celebrating your 32nd wedding anniversary.

Hi,

Casual dress rules ok, smart caj perhaps for that special evening / optional meal.

Normally UK£s but you will need Euros on days 12 to 17. Just about everybody will take a Visa card and there are ATM's all over the place.

Expect sunshine, cloud, rain or fog at hourly rotating intervals and you have it cracked Smiler.

Just go with the flow and do have a great trip !!!

Thanks Hornet,
Good to hear from a "local".We are definatly going with a clear mind and a good heart as this is something that I, in particular, have wanted to do from the time I was old enough to understand where my old Mum and Granparents came from.I have watched the Military Tattoo on Australian TV (usualy on New Years Eve) and am delited to be able to attend this while on tour as well

Thanks to all,
Have read a lot of posts and am unable to hide my excitment. We leave in a month and sometimes I think that is too short a time line and other times I think It is too long. Cool

..... and hey, Joe .... one more thing ....

When it comes to booking the optionals, just remember this;

On most of the Insight tours we have been on your fellow countryman have said to us "May not be coming this way again so we're doing it all"

( and no, I do not work for Insight ) Smiler
