Does anyone have any tips when travelling alone on tours. I have not travelled alone before and am a little apprehensive.

Hi Jadake

Sit with different people each day at breakfast, this way you get to know everyone. As soon as you find out who the other single people on the tour are, (there are usually four or five) introduce yourself and form a group, this always works well and means you always have someone to explore with. Some couples don't mind a single tagging along with them but some would rather be on their own or with another couple.

I have always gone for the single supplement, mainly because I like some privacy and know that by doing this, my personal routines are not going to spoil someone else's holiday.

I have travelled extensively as a single and have always had a fantastic time.

The first time you will be nervous, but after that you will relish each trip.

Hi Jadake,
I travelled solo on my tour and as it turned out I was the ONLY single person. It didn't matter however as everyone made me feel welcome especially at meal times. I enjoyed myself so much I am booked on another Insight tour, again as a single!

I am also planning on single supplement for the same reasons so really appreciate your view. Hopefully this will be one of many. thanks Glen, Perth WA

Hi Two years ago a friend and I went on a tour together with the understanding that we would not be tied at the neck the whole time. On it there were 2 other people who were single and everyone made special efforts to include them in meals and group outings. From that tour I realized I don't need a friend/partner to travel with as I would have been quite comfortable on my own. During that time I shared meals with many different people-married couples, singles, groups etc. Everyone was so interesting and kind so it was great getting to know each other.
Good luck on your trip- just relax and enjoy it. Be friendly but not obtrusive as some people may wish to be alone.

I am booked on 3 back to back tours this summer- the 2 longer ones I am single and the shorter one I am going to try a SHARE. Hope it works out. If not it is only a few days and I will tough it out /or see if I can pay the single after the fact. I may even get lucky and have my own room. Some people have had lots of luck with shares and others haven't- you never know until you try and of course it is just a crapshoot as you could have 10 excellent roomies and then get paired with the one from Hell. LOL

Sandy, Due to you and some others, I am feeling a lot more positive about travelling alone. I am realising it might just be a positive because you have the opportunity to socialise with everyone whereas when you travel with friends/partner, whilst being friendly and sociable, tend to stick together. I am opting for the single supplement which will suit me first time. I believe you have to try everything once so good luck with your first time sharing. Thanks. Glen, Perth WA

Hi Jadake, I travelled solo when I did Highlights of Spain and Highlights of Eastern Europe. I was nervous at first. I was with someone when I did my first tour, Highlights of Europe, but I must say that I had more fun when I went solo. I always took the single supplement because I want my privacy. I'm going alone again in my next Insight tour in June.

I think the sitting with different people at breakfast is an excellent idea! Great for couples also!
We had another couple we were especially close too, but made a huge effort to sit with others at breaky. There were some that were travelling in foursomes that always stayed together and didn't get to know a lot of other people well.
You'll have a blast. I'd love to do one on my own in the future!
