Hi Marg Ann
If you go to tour tales click on find and type in Jordan or Egypt it should see many tales about trips to this area. I have pasted in here a reply about Jordan Experience some time ago. My husband and I went on the Jordan Experience in October 2007 and loved every minute of it. You can see our pictures on http://www.flickr.com/photos/w...verthejourneytakesus Go to collections and Jordan. It was hot when we were there and very dry and dusty so found myself doing more washing of clothes than I would have liked. I did try to cover up out of respect wearing tops with sleeves, jeans and long skirts - sometimes it was just too hot though. My husband wore shorts, tshirts and sandles. There we many who didn't cover up and had no problems. I wore colorado walking sandles most of the time. Petra was the highlight. Make sure you (if you can) walk up to the cathedral at Petra as it is really worth it. There were 10 on our tour and the guide put most off until only 3 of us made the climb. It is long but not particularly difficult climb. Donkeys are available. The hotel at Petra was very nice. Jerash was another great site. All the police with guns were a bit unsettling at first but we grew used to it and never felt unsafe. Everyone was very friendly. The hotel in Amman was being renovated and was a bit out dated. Our guide got around like he couldn't be bothered most of the time but it didn't worry us because he gave us plenty of free time at sites and this suits us. Some of those on the tour were not happy with the bus as it was a little 12 seater but was airconditioned. Transfer from the airport to the hotel and back went without a hitch. As we arrived a day early the Insight Rep asked if we wanted to go to the Dead Sea Day Spa and although it was an interesting experience to watch people smear mud over their bodies it was an expensive exercise at $180AUD. Once we were there we found we could only use the swimming pool. The spa treatments were extra unless you wanted to smear on the dead sea mud but it smelt so bad and there were warnings not to put your head under. The driver who took us there was lovely, told us much about Jordan's history and his wife had baked us a box of cookies. We found we didn't really need to change much money as there was little we needed or wanted. We just let our guide know if we needed an ATM for extra cash. We then joined the Grand Tour of Egypt tour which I am sure I have written about on tour tales. I there is anything specific you wish to know please ask. |
