russell7,
Would suggest that you limit the actual cash you carry to a basic amount of both euros & sterling and use your credit card where possible....Have a "PIN" attached to your credit card so you can use ATMs to replenish cash as needed....this way you only have to convert from $USD into local currencies for your requiremnets and not have to convert back any "excess" local currencies.....If you are doing the same Rome /London tour that we are...you also spend some time in Switzerland, which does not use Euros, so you will need Swiss Francs.
Enjoy your trip

Some Bank ATM cards only work at ATMs in Europe at bank locations.

I know we are all different and have had different experiences, but so many times fellow travelers have run out of cash at crucial times (like in pubs!!!) Also, at the end I feel rather sure that you will want to give cash to your TD and bus driver. You may give them leftovers from several countries. They really have good connections and never seem to say "Oh I don't want that!"

So my advice is to have cash handy (maybe even tucked in with your socks!)

Also notify your credit card company that you are going and how long you will be gone.
