We have done the Hop on Hop Off Bus a couple of times and the included River Cruise and Walk. It is well worth doing, especially on a first time visit to London. Have fun planning. It's all part of the trip.

We haven't stayed at the Thistle Marble Arch but a lot of people on this board have as I recall seeing that in a number of posts. We are staying our first 4 nights in a hotel at Lancaster Gate - over the road from Hyde Park, then only moving to our tour hotel - the Crowne Plaza St James, for the 1 night pre-tour. We don't return to London after our tour as we are leaving it in Paris and flying to Dublin from there. It really depends on your requirements as hotels in London are quite expensive and we prefer to spend our precious travel dollars on seeing and doing things. As long as our bed is clean and comfortable and we are in a reasonable area we are happy.

We stayed at the Thistle Marble Arch last August before our European Spotlight tour (arriving there two days early). It is in a great location, backing onto Oxford St. and only about a block from the Marble Arch tube station. There are lots of restaurants and pubs down the many side streets in the area.

I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again.

I don't remember seeing a laundromat nearby, but we weren't looking, so there may be one. We did do some laundry in the room prior to leaving, as we have a lot of quick dry travel clothes.
If you like, try this link which gives you the shops on Oxford St. http://www.streetsensation.co.uk/oxford/os_intro.htmt. or http://www.oxfordstreet.co.uk/shopping

George.

Can anyone tell me if they know what time the European Spotlight returns to London on the final day?

We are going on this tour in September and wanting to organise some activities in London at the completion of the tour.

Hi Wren: Welcome to the board, its good to see another Novocastrian! Our European tour went the other way, ending in Amsterdam but on day one, coming via the channel to Paris, it did not arrive in Paris until late afternoon. I am assuming that you would not arrive in London, on the reverse, until late afternoon. Hope this helps.

Karen & Will 5 nights at the Thistle will cost you an arm and a leg. I would stay somewhere cheaper then move there for the night before the tour begins that's what we're doing. Save's us $200AUD a night.
