We are travelling on the Essentials "European Highlights" tour in September 2009. Does anyone have any new information or suggestions? The only info I can find is from 2004 and 2005. Any feedback would be great. Thanks.

Hi hpar: Regarding updated info on the Essentials European Highlights tour, I was checking the itinerary and optionals and noted that this tour is similar to the European Spotlight(not Essential) and probably some others in the brochures. Before we went on the Spotlight tour in 2008 I actually read most of the recent tour tales of other trips as I noted that the sights and optionals are usually the same. You might find it interesting reading other tour tales of recent travellers of similar itinerary. I had posted my Spotlight tour tale of May 2008 which may also give you some ideas. Enjoy reading the BB tour tales as for sure that is where you'll get your best information. Christine, Ontario

Hi hpar,
I can only suggest some of the optionals which are the same as a tour I have taken, although I a little confused as you are offered optionals in Salzburg but Salzburg is not mentioned at all in the Itinery??? Anyway I have done the Carriage ride up to the mountain village when you are in Innsbruck that was just beautiful. The Lake Lucerne cruise was also very enjoyable the scenery is lovely on both.If by chance you do go to Salzburg both the Sound of Music and the Eagles Nest Optionals are pretty good.

Cheers Denise

Hi guys,

Thanks to both of you for kindly replying. As far as I know, we are not going to Salzberg, unless it is some sort of half day point. I wonder why they included them in the optionals. Maybe it is an error.
I will definitely check out the Spotlight tour tales as you suggested Boomer. Thanks for the suggestion.
I was definitely interested in both the carriage ride and the cruise Niece 57. Good to know that they are both worthwhile.

Do either of you have any experience with the Essentials Tours? Will we actually visit any of the sites or is it mostly done through optionals?

We are leaving Sept. 5 and can hardly wait. Our travel agent said the documents are in today, so it is REALLY happening!!! Look forward to hearing from both of you and once again thank you.
Heather

Hi Heather,
Just read thru your Itinery and there are quite a few demonstations you will be going it ie glass blowing and Leather making, if you read thru you will notice you will see such and such which means virtually driving past. View thingd which generally means a stop to take a photo or you will visit which means just that and you will go there. You also have some times with a local guide. The time at leisure is as says but you can choose to go to the places that are suggested or just wander and sometimes optionals may be offered at this time too. My first tour with my Hubby we did only some of the Optionals but the next time with my daughter we did them all and I really did prefer that.I am sure you will have a wonderful time.

Cheers Denise
