How do I request non-smoking rooms on tour? Do I ask the travel agent to note it somewhere, or do you wait until you arrive at hotel, which I would imagine is a bit pot-luck. I have been caught before (when travelling independently) and was able to change room, but being with tour group with allocated rooms might be less choice.
This is important to me so would like to organise before trip if possible.
Thanks
Faye

The TG should ask everyone their preferences at the beginning of the tour. While Insight cannot absolutely promise you a non smoking room, they do their best. I believe all our rooms were non smoking when I took the Romantic European in 2003.

The TG will try to find couples a double bed instead of two twin beds if that is their preference too -- although this usually turned out to be two single beds pushed together and made up as if it was one.

Whoops sorry, didn't notice this question was addressed to the hotline, still getting used to this new screen.

Hello Faye
By all means ask your agent to make a note in the booking and also ask the TD at the start of the tour.
Insight like all operators is somewhat at the mercy of the hotel as hotels have different policies on smoking rooms or smoking floors or whatever. Certainly non smoking rooms are generally available and will be allocated . We have just discussed between ourselves and don't recall finding a major problem in recent years. Attitudes to smoking have changed somewhat and hotels are much more sensitive to this issue than they were even a few years ago.
Hope this helps and we look forward to seeing you over here.

Thanks for advice Brad and John. Thank you for your input as well Kathrynd. The amount of advice and helpful tips etc on this site have been invaluable to me in planning my trip. We have bitten off quite a bit with doing the Country Roads of Italy and then to London to do the Britain and Ireland Discovery tour, a total of about 6 1/2 weeks travelling, so need to be organised. Purchased my new digital camera yesterday after reading many informative leads from contributors. Ready to fly out 5/5/05. So excited.
