I took the opposite tour at the end of May 2007 and I feel you are doing it the better way. The longest two days are from Istanbul- Sofia & Sofia-Ohrid Traffic is heavy in both cities.
I'm on a UK passport so I did't need visas except Turkey which I bought at the border. Its a revenue making exercise You buy the stamp and stick it in your passport from a little booth. The border guards do like to stamp passports.
The Dalmatian Coast is fantastic as are the Plitvice Lakes.
Anthing you need to know just ask

Regards

Richard

Thanks, Richard. You must have been on the "Eastern Discovery" tour from Vienna to Istanbul. Were there 40 passengers max on your tour? Any security or pick pocket issues to be concerned about?

Cheers

Yes it was the Vienna-Istanbul tour. We had 38 on our tour the coach had 43 seats so ther was a bit of room which didn't realy cut down the legroom. Because of the roads ours was slightly narrower than the normal coaches so once sitting down the aisle side seat was able to be moved out to give extra room.
As regsrds security Istanbul is very busy especially in the tourist areas and around the ferry terminals one of which is close to the hotel. I had no problems but ats always best to be careful. All the city centre hotels had door staff and some had security men. On the road no problems.
Hope this helps

Regards

Richard

Hi General Max; Did Treasures of Turkey last year and we were warned about pick pockets especially around the Mosques in Istanbul and wouldnt you know it one of the fellows on the tour had his wallet pick pocketed in the St. Sophia. He had it in a side pocket of a pair of shorts. The pocket had a flat and under that a zipper and they managed to get the wallet out!!! He said he only felt a bump against him and it was gone. Would suggest maybe leaving anything non-essental in your hotel safe. I am doing that this time...leaving on Eastern Discovery Sat YAHOO!!!

Naples Joan,

Have a fantastic trip. Please tell us your favorites when you return. I also understand the Dubrovnik Sunset cruise & dinner is good, but only serves fish! Enjoy.

Mrs. Max
