Hello, I am booked on my first Insight tours (Wonders of Turkey and Golden Explorer) for September and October. I would like to see the Klimt collection at the Belvedere in Vienna and was wondering how much free time I will have in the evenings. Was anyone able to squeeze in time during the tour or would it be better to stay an extra day? I would be paying the single room rate for an extra day so it gets expensive. Thanks, Aileen

Hi jen2, according to the Belvedere website at www.belvedere.at, they house the world's largest Klimt collection. They are doing a special exhibition called Gustav Klimt and the Kunstschau 1908 and it is available Oct 1/08 to Jan 18/09. I want to purchase my ticket online ahead of time, but need to make sure I will have enough time to make use of it! If you go, let me know what you think of it!

Sorry, I can't help.. I didn't do this tour. Just wanted to say that Vienna is beautiful and there is SO much to see. Just walking around the city is lovely. There were lots of street performers to watch and delicious coffee shops. If you WERE to stay an extra day, there would be plenty for you to see and do. I wish I'd had more time there. I hope you can fit your plans in!
I was disappointed not to see Ann Franks hosue when we were in Amsterdam. Once I was there I realised how hard it would have been. Guess it gives me reason to go back. Smiler

This is Joan in Florida and I took this same trip last August-September. Allow an extra day in Vienna to see everything. Enjoyed this trip extremely. Really liked Turkey, a rich clean country with warm loving people. I did this trip as a single and had no problems.

We spent two extra days in Vienna when we took this tour in October, 2007. We went to an evening concert near the hotel one night and we booked a day tour to Melk which is about 50 miles NE of Vienna. This tour was outstanding as part of it was by boat on the Danube.

Cheers

I spent four days in Vienna at the end of a tour and didn't see everything. If you have the opportunity to spend some extra time there do.

I would definitely stay a least for an extra day. The day you will be there with the tour will probably be full of activities that you will miss if you go off on you own. You want to see the Schonbrunn Palace an all the other places the tour takes you to. The tour itinerary says you will be staying at the Hilton Vienna. It is located at Stadtpark. Excellent location. It is also within easy walking distance to the Belvedere. If they change your hotel to the Sofitel, it is even closer.
We have been to Vienna 3 times and this year will make it 4. We will again be staying several extra days there. A beautiful city. It also has an excellent Underground that makes getting around a breeze. The last time we were there a 24 hour pass was only 5 EUROS.

The direct express train to the airport is just outside the Hilton Vienna and a half block away. It runs every 20 minutes. This is excellent transportation to the airport if you stay an extra day or two.
